How to Receive the Strata Update - Released 3/24/26

• Connect your Board to WiFi 
• Reboot your Board 
• Open Strata and Play!

You'll see "New Features Live" on the Strata title in the library when you've received the update. If you still don't see it or are having issues getting the latest game updates, email us at [email protected] to assist!

Where to Find the Tutorial

Strata includes an interactive tutorial accessible from the start page by selecting Play Tutorial.

Rules

If you want to review rules outside the built-in tutorial, you can tap the "?" in the bottom-left corner of your Board during game play to access the rules.

House Rules

You can now change several variables of gameplay per game using the House Rules feature during setup. These include: 

• Turn Timer: Turn on the Turn Timer in House Rules during the setup of a game. Choose a time limit between 30 seconds and 5 minutes per move. If you enable the Timer Bonus, you’ll earn a 50-point bonus if you finish your move before time runs out.
• Height Tile Bonus on Claiming: Under default Strata rules, you only receive the height tile bonus once you capture the tile. However, you can choose to receive the height tile bonus when tiles are claimed instead by enabling this in House Rules settings during game setup.

Tips & Tricks

We’ve noticed a few common points of confusion that can make it seem like Strata isn’t working correctly, even when it’s following the rules as designed. Here are some clarifications:

• Block placement:As you place each block, the grid highlights exactly which tiles you’ll claim or capture, giving you a real-time preview of your scoring before you lock in your move. Placing your second and third blocks could alter the tiles that you’ll claim or capture, and the Board will update the highlight accordingly. 
• Claiming Height Tiles (tiles with dots): You can only claim a height tile if you place a block of the matching height on it (e.g., two dots = a 2-high block). If the height doesn’t match, the tile will not be claimed or highlighted—even if a block is placed there. You can see examples in this video. Some grids now include black height tiles. To claim these tiles, you must bridge over them at the correct height.
• Scoring Height Tile Bonuses:Under default Strata rules, you don’t receive the height tile bonus immediately. First, you must: (1) Claim the height tile with the correct-height block, and (2) Capture it by fully surrounding it (on all sides and diagonals) with tiles you control, black tiles, or the edge of the grid. Only once the height tile is captured will the bonus points be awarded. However, you can choose to receive the height tile bonus when tiles are claimed instead by enabling this in House Rules settings during setup.
